City Breaks to Paris

If you’ve longed for those city breaks to Paris then it’s high time you had one! With several flights a day to both Charles de Gaulle and Beauvais from Ireland you have plenty to choose from. Fix a date with your partner and then book your city break to Paris above on the booking engine or give us a call.

Why not start your city break in Paris on the Left Bank with a visit to the Eiffel Tower, known locally as ‘La Dame de Fer’ – The Iron Lady; it was built in 1889 for the Universal Exhibition and was supposed to be pulled down after 20 years but now after 130 years has become the most recognizable icon of the entire city. It is about 330m tall and is built mainly from wrought iron. Lifts will take you a lot of the way to the top but if you already suffer from too much energy then you can still pay to climb over 300 steps to the first level and then the same again to the second one. You need to take a lift beyond this point. French writer Guy de Maupassant allegedly hated the construction so much that he ate his lunch in the restaurant at the base as often as possible because it was the only place in Paris from which he could not see it! You can make up your own mind about it – Metro: Bir Hakeim.

Time for lunch……if you want to avoid the high cost of eating in the above then try a café in the surrounding area. They represent the very essence of Parisienne life and they’re part of the very reason you came to Paris. You can pay several different prices for the same item in an establishment depending on whether you’re standing at the bar, sitting at it, seated at a table inside or on the terraced pavement outdoors. In any event it’s a great way to just watch the world go by.

Ready for some culture? Let’s stay on the left of the Seine and visit Le Musée d’Orsay. It started out life around 1900 as a train station and now houses the largest treasure chest of Impressionist works there is. Artists featured include Cézanne, Renoir, Monet, Degas, Rodin, Gauguin, Seurat and Van Gogh and even if you don’t recognize all these names you’re bound to know some of their works. In an art-timeline sense it bridges the gap between the very-old Louvre and the modern Beaubourg museums. Buy yourself a poster copy of your favourite artwork in the gift shop or for a more modest sum get a fridge magnet to take away. You can walk there in about 30 minutes from this morning’s entertainment or get the Metro Solferino.

Medals all round at the end of this marathon and it’s probably time to head back to your Arrow Tours hotel to have a rest and freshen up before you head out for dinner in one of the many bistros dotted around the city. ©ArrowTours
