Rome

With your destination as Rome holidays there are sure to please. Since there are several daily flights from Ireland, Rome holidays become a very flexible option for you.  As everyone visits here at least once in their lifetime then Rome holidays are sure to be on your bucket list.

When you pick your dates there will be a hotel and district to match your wishes and wallet – take a look at the booking engine above or call our very willing team on 041 983 1177.

In fact, you will be getting two for the price of one as there are two distinct cities here: Rome and the Vatican City, which is the seat of the Catholic Church worldwide and is where the Pope lives.

For travelling around Rome there is an underground metro system known as Roma ATAC which is split into three lines and operates daily from early morning until about 11:30pm. There is also a tram service and many Hop-On/Hop-Off bus routes,  though the city is famous for its traffic jams.

Take a browse through our many Rome pages here to get an overview and suggestion of places you might like to call into. These may include:

  • The Roman Forum, where ancient citizens conducted their daily business
  • The Colosseum, where gladiators and prisoners used to fight for their lives
  • The Vatican City with St. Peter’s Square, St. Peter’s Basilica and the Vatican Museums
  • The Spanish Steps, where tourists hang out and where English poet John Keats once lived
  • The Trevi Fountain, Rome’s largest and most famous fountain.
  • The Pontifical Irish College, where many couples travel from Ireland go to get married

Fancy a bit of high-brand designer shopping? Then make sure you’ve a very strong credit card with you! The famous streets of Via dei Condotti, Via Borgognona and Via Frattina – all parallel to each other – will provide you with a dose of the biggest fashion names in the world including Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Dior, and more where you can perfect your own version of ‘La Bella Figura’ – the way to look amazing without appearing to really try.

At the end of a busy day visiting tourist attractions and shopping, head out with your partner to a Tavola Calda, Trattoria, Osteria, Pizzeria or Ristorante, each of which are all different styles of Italian eatery and savour some traditional national cooking – fresh and home-baked.

For day trips from Rome, you may consider Tivoli –  30km northeast of the city. With its clean air and spring waters it was a resort for ancient Romans and Renaissance aristocrats.  Ostia Antica lies 25km southwest of the Eternal City and for centuries was the port that served Rome, mainly importing grain from Africa.  You may also consider a day trip to Naples and Pompeii where you will get a panoramic view of Mount Vesuvius, the Bay of Naples and explore the incredible site of Pompeii. ©ArrowTours
