Best Areas to Stay in Amsterdam

You’ve picked your dates, now ….choose from the best areas to stay in Amsterdam. Depending on what you seek will point to the best areas to stay in Amsterdam for you. But remember that being a very compact city and also with the brilliant tram and bus network you’re really never very far from your hotel base. The hotel choice we offer on the Arrow Tours website is picked because of its location and price-tag so we wouldn’t sell you a hotel set 50km beyond the city unless you specifically wanted one, by phoning us.

We have cut the booking engine into recognizable parts so you can search Amsterdam as a whole or choose one of its sub-sections:

Dam Square/ City Centre  Represents the very heart of Amsterdam and contains Centraal Stations (through which you will probably arrive), Damrak (the many city thoroughfare), the focal point of Dam Square, the infamous Red Light District, lots of high-street shopping and has a raft of hotels to select from. In terms of sights there is the Amsterdam Historical Museum, Royal Palace, the National Monument, Oude Kerk (Old Church), Nieuwe Kerk (New Church) and even a Madame Tussauds waxwork museum.

Canal Loop                      Containing the concentric canals of Herengracht, Keizergracht and Prinsengracht this area surrounds the Dam Square/ City Centre above. It is here you will find Anne Frank’s House, the Westerkerk church, the Homo Monument to LGBTs of World War 2 and the Magere Brug (also known as the Skinny Bridge). It is peppered with a myriad of pubs, bars and cafés also.

Museum Quarter/ Vondel Park  This lies further out again in the southwest of the city and if you’re an arts lover then you’ve a major treat in store with the three internationally acclaimed museums of the Rijksmuseum (State Museum), the Van Gogh Museum and the The Stedelijk Museum (City Museum) all neatly lined up in a row for you. The first offers a breathtaking selection from the Dutch Masters and the Gloden Age, the middle one insight to the troubled life of the Netherland’s best-known painter and the latter bunches of modern art and design.

Rembrandt Area                         To the east of the city is the Rembrandt Area and here you can stay to expand your jewel collection at Gassan Diamonds, call in to see where painter Rembrandt lived & worked, visit the Portuguese Synagogue and Jewish Historical Museum of the Jewish Quarter, the Planetarium, the Aquarium and they City Zoo.

You can search the above zones for the best areas to stay in Amsterdam and then look up more detailed information on the hotel that you like. Also, click on the ‘Map View’ on the Accommodation page to get a better idea of where your hotel sits in relation to where other properties are located.

Please do phone us during office hours for some help in choosing what’s best for you. If you cannot see the hotel you want on our website we can search it for you and give you a price quote. ©ArrowTours
