For evening dinner you’re wondering what the best places to eat in Rome are after a day of tourist attractions and culture.
Well, luckily there’s plenty of options to choose from, beginning right outside your hotel door – or even within it if they offer evening dinner, though most hotels don’t.
The best places to eat in Rome can range in price and menu but during your sightseeing earlier today some candidates might have suggested themselves to you.
Dining in Rome can be an international experience and you are not confined to Italian cuisine only though this is probably what you desire on this visit.
For Italian restaurants offering the best places to eat in Rome the list is so long there’s no way we could provide it here.
However, we have provided some definitions of Italian dining concepts:
Tavola Calda (means ‘hot table’) – In a tavola calda usually there is no waiter table service. Pick your own food in a cafeteria-style serving set up.
Trattoria – is a casual, small, often family-run place to grub, whether for a pre-set lunch menu or evening dinner. They normally specialize in typical Italian food and are more basic than the ristorantes.
Osteria – Osterias are very similar to trattorias, but a bit more casual and often concentrate on regional dishes.
Ristorante – This is the top of the pile in Italian dining, with professional table service, fine dining menus and sometimes a famous chef to cook for you.
Pizzeria – In Italy pizzerias are sit-down restaurants that serve pizza and a few simple pasta options, salads, and a small selection of drinks.
For any of the above simply enquire at your hotel Reception desk for their views of their local ones.
They’re well experienced to offer you advice on eating locally and they may have suggestions on restaurants in other Rome areas too. Remember that some of the places you had lunch in may also be open for dinner so you may consider heading along again there for your evening meal – though maybe on another day.
For the more adventurous options it may be a good idea to have a table reservation:
